I would like to draw attention to a truly remarkable act of charity carried out within our Province of Renfrewshire West.
Over the summer months, Brother John Le Brocq, an 81 year old Past Master of Lodge Greenock St. John’s No. 175, undertook the formidable challenge of walking one million steps. Through his dedication and determination he successfully raised the impressive sum of £5,300 (excluding Gift Aid) in support of Glasgow Sick Children’s Hospital.
This inspiring effort was not only a personal milestone for Bro. Le Brocq, but also formed part of the Grand Lodge of Scotland’s Open Day initiative, designed to bring Freemasonry closer to the local community and to highlight the positive contributions its members make.
Bro. Le Brocq’s achievement embodies the finest values of perseverance, generosity, and community spirit. His commitment – particularly at the age of 81 – is a shining example of how individuals can make a real and lasting difference in the lives of others.
By sharing his story, it is our hope that more people will be encouraged to engage in charitable endeavours and to recognise the positive role that Freemasonry continues to play in Greenock and beyond.
Today Bro. Le Brocq returned to the one million steps finishing line on Greenock Esplanade and presented the cheque to Ali Macintyre – Glasgow Sick Children’s Hospital - Community and In Memory Manager.
